Web site migrated to wordpress

http://s.wordpress.org/about/images/wordpress-logo-stacked-bg.pngNoiseboard.com was started in June 2002 using the Postnuke content management system. After 10 years and several hacks, it was time to upgrade the site. It took a couple of weeks of work to migrate from Postnuke to WordPress. Most of the content has been converted from the old site to the new site with equivalent plugins.

If you have an amusing story to tell about acoustics and vibration consulting jobs, please send them to our forum.

I’ve tried to make it easier to register for the web site by allowing authentication from facebook, google+, twitter and others.

New Hosting

Another interesting year is in store for 2008 with some great conferences in acoustics in vibrations around the globe. For a list of conferences, see the Calendar for 2008 Conferences.

This web site was hacked again recently. It appears that someone did some sql injections into the forums. I’ve shutdown the forums as they were not widely used. I’ve also changed the hosting of the web site. Let me know if you spot any problems.

Revamped noiseboard.com

After another hacker defaced noiseboard.com, I have upgraded the entire site over the past week. If you find that something is not working, please let me know. The upgrade of the forum from XForum to PNphpBB2 was difficult, but hopefully it should all work.

I’ve added some new links, new books, I am just about to upload some new Matlab code and the scripts used to convert XForum to PNphpBB2 (pncXF2BB2).

Enjoy!

Noiseboard was hacked

Unfortunately this web site was hacked. I really wonder about the psyche of people out to destroy rather than create. Hopefully bad karma will catch up with them.

noiseboard.com was unavailable

This web site noiseboard.com was unexpectedly unavailable, as the web hosts were upgrading their servers. Everything should be back to normal now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Happy Birthday to noiseboard.com

It has been one year since noiseboard.com was started. There have been over 36,000 hits over the year. The tallys in the download section show that many people find the articles and papers useful. If you do find something useful, please don’t hesitate to drop me a note (and no, your email or fake email address will not get onto a spam list.)

I am currently preparing a short article that compares the use of ANSYS for acoustic analyses using a P4 computer, with and without the Hyperthreading, under windows and Linux, using version 7 and an older version. The first results show that there is little difference between HT and not HT, but a big difference between an older version and V7.0.

Classifieds added to noiseboard.com

I’ve added a Classifieds section that contains job adverts that I have seen, or people have sent in. There are also For Sale and Wanted sections. If you want to sell anything related to acoustics or vibration, or have a job offer, you are welcome to put a notice here for free.

New record for number of hits in a month

The hit counts per month on noiseboard.com continues to rise. For the month of April we received 6299 hits (see that stats page). I am glad to see that people are making use of this resource. If you wish to contribute anything, or would like to see something on here, please write to me.

Hit count continues to rise

We had over 5000 hits in January! Check out the stats page. I am sure that many of the hits were from search engines crawling through the site.

If you have any news or requests, please feel free to send me feedback so that I can continue to improve this site.

Quiet

You may have noticed the lack of news articles for the past couple of weeks. I have moved half way around the planet, and hence have not been available. All should be back to normal in the next couple of days.
