Telaid in conjunction with Acentech have developed a product called Zone II, which is speaker that makes a low-level mashing noise to drown out background speech which is intended to provides “speech privacy.” There are several new laws that have come into effect that require health care and financial service companies to provide privacy when discussing details with customers. The kit contains 4 speakers that can be installed behind a ceiling tile and provides coverage for about 400 square feet.
Bombardier make turbo-prop aircraft in their Q-series that have an active noise and vibration control system to reduce the noise level inside the cabin. Their Noise and Vibration Suppression System (NVS) uses actively controlled tuned vibration absorbers attached to the fuselage to reduce the vibration, and hence reduces the noise transmitted into the cabin. The system was designed by Ultra-electronics.

Bruel and Kjaer have release two new software packages. Acoustic Determinator Type 7816 is a tool to calculate the sound power level of sources by measuring sound pressure levels in the field. Classifier is a PC-based software package for laboratory or field measurements of building acoustics using Brüel & Kjær’s PULSE version 7.x.
